13:00:03 From Ryan : Hello 13:00:10 From Michael : Hello All! 13:01:32 From Michael : Relied too much on marketing agencies for business. 13:02:13 From Ryan : M-Always listen to your gut. I took on a few projects I didn't feel good about it (and regretted it). That and having faith that the results will come if you do the work. 13:02:28 From Ilhan Kudeki : How to manage my own thinking to encourage myself towards action vs. Letting myself fall into self-limiting beliefs. 13:05:28 From Ilhan Kudeki : (I’ve found Brooke Castillo’s “CTFAR” exercise to be especially helpful with this. I highly recommend it.) 13:07:10 From Michael : W - Sent first 3 WEP emails of my natural born life yesterday! 13:07:15 From Ilhan Kudeki : W - Sent a really well-personalized warm email to a marketing director based on how they were complimented on their LinkedIn profile. They were very impressed by my website and excited to meet. We’re already discussing a project and it looks like there are many more on the horizon. 13:07:17 From Ryan : W-Made 2 new friends from this group: Ilhan and Patricia. 13:08:08 From Michael : Congrats, Ilhan! 13:08:14 From Ilhan Kudeki : Thank you! 13:08:16 From Ilhan Kudeki : Felt great! 13:09:24 From Sandra : Hello! 13:09:42 From Sandra : W: Got my website up! It was hacked. 13:11:16 From Sandra : Not fun. Not sure how it was hacked. HostGator didn't specify 13:12:11 From Sandra : Good thing I had a backup. But I'm re-writing it anyway 13:13:34 From Ilhan Kudeki : I - Trying to do at least 1 warm email per day, to keep the habit going. That way I can still feel like I’m winning with prospecting on days with calls/meetings/follow-ups/work. 13:14:00 From Michael : I - WEP prospecting, also looking ahead of schedule into pricing so I have an idea what to quote prospects 13:15:04 From Ryan : I- Rewriting my web copy. It seemed counter intuitive to make the copy so short/direct, but I see the point about short attention spans. 13:19:48 From Ilhan Kudeki : Most of my samples are from 2015, 2016… not too worried about it… I just explain that I was a copywriter on-and-off over the past few years and I’ve recently been doing it full-time. 13:24:20 From Ryan : Q-What's the best way to keep an "even keel" on your emotions as a freelancer? For example: One minute I'm ready to run through a brick wall with momentum and the next I feel like it's never going to work out. Is it more about keeping an even flow of prospects in the pipeline? Or compartmentalizing work, free time, hobbies into completely separate buckets? 13:26:29 From Ilhan Kudeki : Q - Once you start getting a number of opportunities, how do you like to plan out your writing calendar? How do you factor in uncertainty, personal time (to recharge), and time for prospecting as well? 13:30:16 From Ryan : Nice to hear it's a universal sentiment. 13:30:36 From Ilhan Kudeki : “Do the next right thing.” 13:35:05 From Ilhan Kudeki : Great! I didn’t have that in the first game plan, so I’ll check it out. Waiting on my second game plan. 13:35:11 From Ilhan Kudeki : (The capacity planner) 13:37:10 From Leslie Blaize : Howdy. Glad to be here. 13:38:15 From Ryan : I've went through both - Architect Your Week and Capacity Planner. Each are packed full of great ideas. Just struggling a bit to implement now as I still work a 9-5 with limited free time. 13:40:42 From Ryan : Understood. Good advice. 13:42:56 From Ilhan Kudeki : I’ve heard a guideline that once you can get your side-income to 40% of your full-time income, consistently and cover your costs (with savings for a period of time if necessary), then you can quit and ramp up your business full-time. Numbers may vary, but that’s a structure. 13:44:52 From Leslie Blaize : Q: I participated in a panel for nonprofits. It was successful, but I'm not sure how I want to maximize my follow up. The participants aren't in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry. I'm going to write a blog post about the presentation process. An email will go to all attendees with our contact information. 13:47:27 From Leslie Blaize : Good idea. 13:48:13 From Ilhan Kudeki : V - The mention of the “Architect Your Week” and “Capacity Planner” modules. 13:48:19 From Sandra : V: The Capacity Planner. I'm gonna look into it 13:48:33 From Leslie Blaize : V: I'm going to review Architect yoru week and Capacity planner. I'm getting more clients, so that's a good challenge. 13:49:14 From Michael : V - I'm gonna check out the CTFAR exercise Ilhan recommended. 13:49:49 From Ryan : V: Everyone's feedback in general. 13:50:01 From Ilhan Kudeki : CTFAR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04q1SCEJISI 13:50:22 From Sandra : Thanks Ihan! 13:51:28 From Ryan : Q: When trying to ramp up, is it better to focus on client work only? Or continue to mix in outreach, blogging, etc.? 13:51:42 From Sandra : A: Look at Ed's "writing your website" again as I rewrite mine 13:52:07 From Leslie Blaize : A: Write the presentation process blog while it's still fresh. 13:52:27 From Michael : A - Get out at least 3 WEP emails per day, submit my website for review 13:52:37 From Ilhan Kudeki : Q - I'm planning on quoting a project for a tech company that is re-doing and building up their web page. They have ~20 pages in total to make (including the home page). Their design is pretty set but the copy needs to be edited. About 13 of those pages have to be written from scratch, based on interviews and research. There will be a lot of back-and-forth discussions in the process. I only have a general idea of how to quote this (based on AWAI ranges). I'm planning on starting with a 3-5 page subset of the whole project. What ranges should I be thinking about per page? Any other considerations? 13:52:52 From Ilhan Kudeki : their website* 13:55:48 From Ryan : That's solid advice - appreciate it. 13:58:38 From Ilhan Kudeki : e.g. product / service description pages 14:00:06 From Ilhan Kudeki : I count this as “content editing” They want me to make sure it speaks to the audience. 14:00:12 From Ilhan Kudeki : A lot of rewriting is possible. 14:00:29 From Ilhan Kudeki : In fact, they encourage me to make my own version with proper copywriting principles. 14:02:51 From Ilhan Kudeki : OK, thanks! I suppose I’m just not used to quoting so high! 14:07:02 From Ilhan Kudeki : Thank you! 14:07:09 From Sandra : Thank you! You too.
